My Heaven On Earth

Everyone has that special place that they love to go to. That special place that you can relax and enjoy every second. That special place in which memories are created. Well that special place for me just happens to be Kilgore. Not only is it a beautiful place to spend every open weekend, but it has that "just right" smell too! My "just right" smell is a mixture of; dusty cows with a sprinkle of sage brush, a hint of pine, a dash of wild flowers with a squirt of rain. It doesn't get any better than that!

This last weekend we celebrated our 4th of July weekend in Kilgore. What a great time we had. The weather was just right, the fishing could have been a bit better, the mosquitoes were lousy, (thank goodness for mosquito dope) and there was just enough mud to get really muddy on the first four wheeler ride! Unfortunately I didn't have my camera on that ride. But we were all muddy from head to toe. Rowdy had to pull Dad out of the mud, it was great! We went on a few other four wheeler rides that were pretty fun.

And of course every camp has to have a great watch dog for when those unwanted boogymen come into camp! Well here is our brave watch dog........during the day! Just look at that little pro!

She decided that sleeping in the camper next to Braylie was more her style. Especially after Dad's dog, Toby, never came back from his nature walk. We heard a crazy sound like a little kid's scream not too far from camp. Needless to say Toby never came back to camp and Maddi was not gonna be out in the open for the boogyman to get her! No way! She was fine with being a brave watch dog inside the camper. Thank goodness we still had trusty Heidi on night watch. She may be a little on the chunky side, bless her heart, but at least she'll stand guard on the outside of the camper!

As for poor Tobes, he never made it back in to camp. We searched for him all weekend and never found him. So if any of ya are gonna be out and about near Kilgore, keep an open eye for Toby.

The kids played and played. Bryndi built a small lean-to for the dogs to sleep in, but they didn't like it much. Britton rode his bike up and down the roads. Bradyn picked lots of wild flowers and made pretty bouquets. And Braylie kept everyone in line at all times! Rowdy has a little Chipmunk 22 rifle that he got from his grandma when he was just a little fella. He brought it up camping and let the kids shoot it. They all had a lot of fun with it. Braylie even got to shoot it. Rowdy held and aimed the gun while she pulled the trigger. I think they all hit a pop can a couple different times.

We snuck a little creek fishing in, but didn't have too good of luck. We caught a few little brookies but nothing worth keeping.

I caught mostly snags. But Britton was there to free my hook. Britton got bored with the fishing pole and decided to do some frog hunting. This is what he caught!

We also took a trip down the Yale/Kilgore road to look at the Indians riding across the desert trying to get to West Yellowstone. The kids thought that was the neatest thing ever.

It was a great weekend. One we'll always remember. Be sure to take your loved ones by the hand and enjoy being at your heaven on earth......wherever that may be!
